Three elementary school teachers – Elizabeth Deganian, Lindsey Haralson and Ashley Nelson – have been named finalists for 2019 Coweta County Teacher of the Year.Deganian teaches special education at Newnan Crossing, Haralson teaches fifth-grade math and science at Brooks, and Nelson teaches second grade at Ruth Hill.

The Coweta County Teacher of the Year will be selected from among the three finalists, and the winner will be announced Wednesday, when all 31 Teachers of the Year will be honored. The Coweta County Board of Education partners with the Newnan Pilot Club to present the annual program at the Nixon Centre for Performing and Visual Arts.

Teachers of the Year are selected by their fellow certified educators for exemplary teaching. Honorees are chosen from K-12 instructors (including media specialists) in disciplines ranging from math, special education, gifted education, language arts and sciences to music and physical education.

Elm Street Elementary School music teacher Josh Tate was the 2018 Coweta County Teacher of the Year.
