Kevin and I have set up a new way for people to pay via PayPal. If you'd like to try it, visit this page: http://www.bgmrc.org/index.php/bgmrc/content/how_to_join_the_bgmrc/ The cost using this method is $20.88, which includes the PayPal fee (2.9% + $0.30). Right now it's just set up for individual dues -- we'll add another button for self and family memberships shortly. The total for that one should be $22.94. Fire training center Greeson Trail. If you missed Field Day we had a good time, made lots of contacts, and ate a lot of hamburgers and hot dogs. We operated for a different part of the Coweta Fairgrounds and everyone like the location better than previous years. I have asked for the same location next year. I will try to bring some pictures of the setup. We have some events coming up soon. Powers Arts and Crafts Festiveal is Labor Day weekend Sat, Sun, and Monday. We need 10 to 15 hams there to cover our responsibilitys. We will also need to work a couple of weekends befor to clean up everything and fix all the broken PA wires. We have also been invited to participate in the Boy Scout Jamboree on the Air October 18 and 19th. We are also providing some communications for a bike ride in Moreland in October. Please plan to attend. Until this morning I had the meeting scheduled on the 22, our usual fourth-Tuesday date. I've made the correction, but it's kind of short notice. --AK4MC k4un@att.net wrote: > BGMRC-List Post: > --- > Don't forget the BGMRC meeting Tuesday July 15th at 7pm. Our primary topic is digital communications using PSK31.? Text communications is an important part of emergency communications but it is also an interesting regular ham method of communications. ? This meeting will primarily be a light technical discussion of PSK31 theory of operations with a demonstration of two PSK31 systems demonstrated by Jim Lynch (K4GVO) and Jan Dubroca (KN4JD).? If you are unfamiliar with PSK31 or peripherally familiar with PSK31 and interested in additional information and what it takes to get PSK31 going, then this meeting may interest you.? You DO NOT need to be a member of Fayette Coweta ARES to attend.? All Amateurs interested in?this topic are welcome to attend. ? Jim Lynch (K4GVO) will discuss the basic theory of operation behind how PSK31 works with a presentation and a complete system using a computer and transceiver.? Jan Dubroca (KN4JD) will have another system that is a self-contained PSK31 system (www.nue-psk.com) that does not require a computer.? We'll have an antenna system set up to conduct actual PSK31 reception and transmission. ? Directions to Fire Station 81:? Drive toward Peachtree City to the intersection of Highways 54 and 74.? Turn South on Highway 74 and drive to the next traffic light.? At the traffic light turn right on to Paschall Road.? Fire Station 81 is about a 100 or so feet up on the right.? Drive just past the Fire Station fire engine doors but NOT beyond the railroad crossing.? Just before the railroad crossing turn right into the parking lot.? You should notice the back door entrance to the training room.? Please park in a manner that does not obstruct the flow of traffic through the parking lot as some emergency traffic may use this as pass-through. ? Let me know if you have questions. ? A couple of things we *need* to deal with tonight are: * Powers Crossroads is coming up, we need to start preparing for that. * Current officers' terms are winding down, so we need to think about elections. --AK4MC From mcgehee.ak4mc at gmail.com Tue Jul 22 22:41:48 2008 From: mcgehee.ak4mc at gmail.com (Kevin McGehee) Date: Tue Jul 22 22:42:38 2008 Subject: [Bgmrc-list] July meeting Message-ID: <48869A6C.4020800@gmail.com> Five members gathered at the Newnan-Coweta Public Safety Training Center tonight for our July meeting. They were: Chris McGehee, KL0UD -- BGMRC Treasurer (presiding) Kevin McGehee, AK4MC -- BGMRC Secretary George Peck, W4IW Bill Merritt, K4WPM Jay Langley, N4NRL * Jay, N4NRL, talked about his upcoming Boy Scouts project, Jamboree On The Air, which will be held at Mcintosh Reserve Park near Whitesburg, third weekend in October. Scouts from several counties will be pursuing their radio merit badges with training and on-the-air operation. About 200 Scouts are expected to participate. Jay said he is keeping in touch with BGMRC members who were involved in last February's teaching and testing event in Newnan (see http://www.bgmrc.org/pictures/2008_Scouts_Tech_Class/) * Bill, K4WPM, reminded the members about the Lewis Grizzard bike race October 5. Bill says "three or four" hams will be needed to ride in SAG wagons (they will not be asked to drive their own cars for this) using mobile power and mag-mount or similar antenna, to help out. * Powers Crossroads is practically upon us and this is a very important activity for the BGMRC's revenue stream. If you would like to help with preparations or during the event, but don't know whom to contact, feel free to post to the reflector for information. * And of course, we need people willing to serve as club officers for 2008-09. If we don't get volunteers, we'll have to draft somebody. -- Kevin McGehee, AK4MC BGMRC Secretary From mcgehee.ak4mc at gmail.com Sun Jul 27 18:53:59 2008 From: mcgehee.ak4mc at gmail.com (Kevin McGehee) Date: Sun Jul 27 18:54:38 2008 Subject: [Bgmrc-list] Tonight's net Message-ID: <488CFC87.9080503@gmail.com> Tonight's net on the 145.13 repeater will take place as always, but it's going to be different. Participation in the net has fallen off considerably since it ceased to be an ARES net, and it really hasn't made sense to continue it as a formal, directed net. We've continued with it to encourage use of the 513 repeater and in hopes that local hams who may not have had occasion to QSO during the week will take the opportunity to do so. We still want the net to continue but there don't seem to be many people interested in taking charge as net control and operating from a script. And when there aren't many people on the air right at 9:00, anyone who tunes in a few minutes late may have missed it entirely. So... Chris or I will transmit via the repeater at or about 9:00 tonight, and then Chris and I will monitor for a while. Anyone who checks in can call directly to anyone else who's on the frequency. If nothing else, tune in and let's exchange 73s. There's still the formal, directed ARES net every Tuesday evening at 2100 hours, using the KK4GQ 145.21 Fayetteville and, by link, the N4OME 147.165 repeater in Madras among others. As it was, if we hadn't still been on 15 minutes out Huey and Chris and I would have been the only ones. The idea here is to make it easy for anyone to run a net simply by checking in first, and then monitoring for a while, and greeting anyone else who checks in. I did a bit of a spiel at the beginning based loosely on the script KL0UD and KI4WNA have used when they've run the net in recent months, but I don't think anyone was listening during that time. I'll update the script in the next day or two for those who would still prefer to use one, and restore the link to it on the website. I can't think of any way to make this simpler and have it still be a net. --AK4MC From mcgehee.ak4mc at gmail.com Tue Jul 29 16:16:41 2008 From: mcgehee.ak4mc at gmail.com (Kevin McGehee) Date: Tue Jul 29 16:16:49 2008 Subject: [Bgmrc-list] Re: tonight's net In-Reply-To: <488D3019.7090000@gmail.com> References: <488D3019.7090000@gmail.com> Message-ID: <488F7AA9.1070207@gmail.com> As promised last Sunday night, there's a revised net script on the website at http://www.bgmrc.org/netscript.htm --AK4MC
